Active volcano Bromo
The desolate landscape surrounding Mt. Bromo has a strange end-of-the-world feeling, particularly at sunrise, the favored time to climb to the rim of Bromo's crater. Bromo itself is not one of the great volcanoes of Indonesia, it is the whole landscape that is breathtaking.

Alas Purwo National Park and Plengkung surf spot

NP Alas Purwo consists in 430 km2 and has fine beaches, good opportunities for wildlife spotting, and savanna, mangrove and lowland monsoon forests. The facilities are limited and the park is not easy to reach. The limestone peninsula is relatively flat; the highest hill has a peak of 322 m only.

Baluran National Park

A sense of Africa: biggest savanna in Java
Baluran National Park covers an area of 250 square kilometers. Mount Baluran (1,247 m) in the center of the park, formerly overlooked extensive savanna grasslands. The park is still rich in wildlife but a great deal of the grasslands have gone, due to encroachment by Acacia thorn shrub.

Sukamade turtle beach in Meru Betiri National Park

In 1997 the area of 580 km2 called Meru Betiri, was given the status 'National Park', of which 8.5 km2 are sea. 477 plants are identified in this park, 291 herbal plants, 218 animals, 25 mammals of which 18 are protected, 8 reptiles of which 6 are protected and 184 birds of which 68 are protected.
