Several species of shrub of the genus Coffea produce the berries from which coffee is extracted. The two main species cultivated commercially are Coffea canephora - better known as 'robusta' - and Coffea arabica. Both are cultivated at the Ijen Plateau.

Access to Mount Ijen 
Public transport to the Ijen Plateau is available, but not as regular as in cities and not that often. You can reach the plateau from 2 directions, either via Bondowoso or via Banyuwangi. Traveling to the Ijen Plateau is fairly easy if time is your friend. If you are short in time, you might consider an organized tour.

    Officially you can start your climbing at 02.00 and Ijen will closed at 14.00

  • PAY ATTENTION VISITOR !!!  IJEN IS CLOSED !!!
    Due to conservation reason, Ijen is officially closed every first Friday of the month. 
    For the year 2024 The closure days are 5 Jan, 2 Feb, 1 Mar, 5 Apr, 3 May, 7 Jun, 5 Jul, 2 Aug, 6 Sep, 4 Oct, 1 Nov and  6 Dec.
